Summer Dance Intensive

Kaylee attended a summer dance intensive at her dance studio July 6-10. Each day they started at 9am and finished at 5:15 pm! Kaylee loved all the classes and had a great time. At the end of the week they passed out awards. Kaylee got this:

Yes, its just a paper plate, but I think its the best award she's ever received. Derek & I are so proud. I told Kaylee you can't control the amount of talent you have and you can't really control the opportunites you are given but you are always in control of what you do with both!

Way to go Kaylee!

It was too loud

Something funny I've noticed about my boys is that they love to MAKE noise but they don't really like loud noises unless they are the ones making them.

On Saturday evening we went to the Berville Demolition Derby.

The boys really liked it but both complained that it was too loud. Nate even asked to leave twice because it was too loud. Several times during the event the boys just screamed in joy and seemed to like it better when they were contributing to the noise.

This morning Max was still talking about the Derby. As soon as he woke up the first words out of his mouth were:

"It was too loud and the wheel fell off and the tractor came and he put the wheel back in the ban! Can we go again?"

Photobucket

The translation for those of you who don't speak two year old boy is that- It was very noisy. Several cars lost wheels or tires during the event. Several times the large construction tractor would move those cars out of the arena. And one of the drivers took his tire and put it in the back of his car. (To Max all cars are vans but his "v" sounds like a "b".)

Kaylee & Jake Sommers enjoyed the show too.

The garbage man giveth and taketh away

Max seems a little confused about the garbage man's job. We needed to take the washing machine out to the curb today. Max, typically asked why, and I said because its broken. Max said that's o.k. the garbage man will bring us a new one!

Misadventures in Cross Training

Today I was going to be super-woman! My alarm went off at 6:30am this morning and even though Max had kept me up past mid-night, I got up right away. I managed to get my bike on the van roof rack and actually got to Becky Jo's 10 minutes ahead of schedule.

I must say, Becky Jo seemed none-too-pleased to see me 10 minutes early. But she said she was in for our morning of triathlon training anyway. Getting Becky Jo's bike on the roof of my van was a little challenging but we muscled through it and were on our way to Mandy's.

When we exited the express-way there was a police office directing traffic at the top of the ramp. We looked down the road to see why and discovered we were on the New Baltimore Triathlon's route! (BTW that's probably as close as I'll get to a full tri!)

We got a bit lost on the way to Mandy's and took a scenic detour but managed to arrive about 15 minutes late. I must say, Mandy seemed none-too-pleased that we were late. But she said she was in for our morning of triathlon training anyway.

We decided to forego putting Mandy's bike on the roof and instead just shoved it in the back of my van, and were on our way to Stoney Creek.

About 2 minutes after we picked Mandy up it started raining pretty hard. I think that was the first time Becky Jo suggested we skip training and go see a movie. We laughed and continued on our way.

We got to the beach and after a minute the monsoon subsided to a light rain so we decided to go ahead with the swim. When we got to the beach there were about 15 lifeguards there. It seemed a little odd because there are not usually lifeguards when we swim at 8am since the beach technically doesn't open until 10am. We forged ahead but when we got to the sand the head lifeguard came up to us and said we couldn't swim because they were having "in service training." I think that was the second time Becky Jo suggested a movie. We laughed again and went to change into our biking clothes.

We muscled all the bikes off and out of the van and managed to get all the tires on the bikes and all the brakes connected. Then we noticed that Mandy had 2 flat tires. There was another group of bikers so we asked if they had a pump. Their shiny SUV had a built in compressor, so we inflated Mandy's tires and were on our way.

We made it all the way from the parking lot to the bike trail before Mandy's tires were flat again. I think that was the third time Becky Jo suggested a movie. We didn't laugh. We weighed our options and decided that Becky Jo & I would bike and Mandy would run. Then Mandy could use one of our bikes when we were done.

Becky Jo and I rode once around Stoney Creek which is about 6 miles. Becky Jo did awesome for her first time on a bike in quite a while. When we finished biking we jogged back to the trail to look for Mandy. We met her at the start of the trail and decided to all jog back to the van and swim together.

The swim went great. We all swam the full 300 meters (the amount in the mini-tri) and Mandy & I did an extra 300 meters just for fun. I'm sure we gave the lifeguards (who were on duty by then) a good laugh when we raced butterfly stroke.

Even though we didn't get to do the full amount of the mini-tri, we had a great time with our misadventures in training. On the way home, we discussed whether we had burned enough calories to justify stopping for ice cream, but we were good and passed by the diary queen.

I think we were all Super Women after all.

Until he forgets

My best find at a Garage Sale so far this year is this:

Photobucket

In case you don't know, "Heelys" are shoes with wheels built into them. You've probably been annoyed by some kid zipping past you in the mall or grocery store wearing these.

Nate has been wanting them for a while but I've said no because:
a. the are expensive and
b. they are slightly dangerous.

But then I found a pair in his size at a Garage Sale for $5. Once reason a. was gone reason b. didn't hold as much weight. Afterall, this is Nate.

Nate has been enjoying the shoes and doing quite well with them for about a week but tonight he fell in a parking lot and skinned up his elbow and knee. He cried for a few seconds and then said:

"Stupid shoes, I'm never wearing these again!"
Then he sniffled and smiled and said
"Or at least until I forget I fell."

Summer Swim Clinic

Nate is really enjoying his summer swim clinic. Its 10:30-11:30 M-F at Dakota H.S. I wasn't sure how Nate would feel about having swim practice everyday in the summer but he's excited to go every morning.

Today they did some time trials. Nate got personal bests in both the 50 Free and 50 Breast. In the 50 Free he lowered his time by almost 12 seconds. That's HUGE!
